So far in it's rather unprotected state the new machine has gone online twice, firstly to visit the website of my ISP and set it up to use my connection, then I shut the browser, updated windows defender ,installed and updated firefox and mbam (both on USBs of mine) and went online once more to visit the google chrome website (hence completing the triplet of browsers). I can post a minitoolbox, security check and rkill log if you like, I have (oldish) versions of those tools on usb and ran them on the new device before it had even gone online. You were right, the initial unnstallation wasn't tricky at all, it's making sure the things are GONE where I'm not so sure.
Then I could use some advice on ensuring mcafee hasn't left traces (and the same for other preinstalled stuff). I ran it's uninstaller immediately and at the present second i am running windows defender which is working fine, I'll be installing avast within a few minutes. And i coul use some tips on ensuring mcafee livesave is fully gone. I could however use some tips on making sure every last bit of bloat has gone, especially in the context of any bloat of the type which if it were left lying around would lead to security vulnerabilities of any kind. But I have checked my certificates just in case, I couldn't see anything wrong with them. Several versions of "Microsoft visual C++ 2005/2008 redistributable" - Libraries, services, frameworks, etc.
